The Daily Lip 11/07/09

Today I went through my lipsticks and tried to get rid of some that I'm pretty sure I don't like, or ones I've had for a year and hardly worn (interpretation: I'm pretty sure I don't like them, either).  I believe I got rid of 20+, but I still have more lipstick than any sane person should own.  In the real world, in which I own makeup to wear it rather than to look at it and run my fingers through it obsessively, like Midas with his gold, I'd probably have about 10, maybe 20 lip products.  A few would be deep reds for evenings, some would be summery glosses, and the rest would be good old standbys that should get me through the week.  Well, I'm getting closer...sort of.

Here's one I found on my rampage through the lipsticks:  Mary Kay's lipstick in Pink Passion.  Now THIS baby is frosty:

You can't tell in this photo, but frosty galore, it's just OTT!  The pink itself is a pretty, summery pink...but I rarely dress to go with such a color.   In short, I don't love it.  The picture above looks better than the lipstick does in real life, and it's making me second-guess myself...but I think I'm right...it's not for me.

Yes, no, or maybe? No, because though it has no major flaws, I just don't love it enough to want to wear it.
Application?  Easy.  Would probably look better with a lip liner, as it's less of a throw-on-and-go lipstick and more of a semi-formal...for, say, a luncheon at the country club.  No, not my gig.
Wear?  I can't say.  I wiped it off.
PITA?  No, except for the mirror part, which is only a minor PITA.
Survey says? "You're sore from digging that damn trench, aren't you?"
Keeper?  No, but thanks anyway.  It's pretty, just not for me.  Anybody want it?

The Daily Lip 11/06/09

Well, I made a derogatory comment about mark's Sheenstick in Playful, then I had to go back to my collection to see if memory served.  It didn't.  Here's photographic evidence that this, too, is a very nice lip product:

It's a pretty mauve-pink shade without too much shimmer at all.  My bad.

Yes, no, or maybe? Yes
Application?  Easy, but needs a mirror.  I'm repeating myself here.
Wear?  Pretty good, actually; because of the stain effect and the Chapstick-like consistency, it wears well.
PITA?  Not a bit, except for the mirror part.
Survey says? "Digging that drainage ditch on the side of your house was a much bigger project than you thought it was going to be, isn't it?!"
Keeper? Yes.  I take back all the ugly words I wrote about it's being too frosty.  It's not.

The Daily Lip 11/05/09

Today's lip is an old standby that I had forgotten about from Avon's mark. line.  It's a "Tinted Sheenstick" and the color is Blissful.  It applies with the consistency of a Chapstick and wears about the same.  The thing it does that I really like is that it leaves a stain when it fades, so I don't get the dreaded ring-around-the-lips phenomenon.  The thing it does that I really don't like is that it dries out my lips a bit.  Nothing reapplication doesn't temporarily relieve, and my lips don't feel any worse for the wear at the end of the day (I'm looking at YOU, Laura Mercier's Courtisane!), so I think it's a contender:

This is a perfect example of the blue-based mauves that I like so much.  It looks a little more "berry" in real life than it does in this photo, but the color is really good for everyday.  It's deeper than you would expect from something called a "Sheenstick," but as you can see it does have a nice satiny sheen to it...

Yes, no, or maybe? Yes
Application?  Easy, but needs a mirror due to the depth of the color.  I didn't use a liner and didn't feel that I needed one...for the second time in a week, I think.  Bonanza!
Wear?  Pretty good, actually; because of the stain effect and the Chapstick-like consistency, it wears well.  I put it on at noon and reapplied at about 5:00; it's 9:00 and time for a reapplication.  Not too shabby, Avon!
PITA?  Not a bit, except for the mirror part.
Survey says? "I think it's going to rain this weekend."
Keeper? Yes.  I have a sheenstick sister color in my collection, "Playful," that I don't like as much.  It's more pink and less berry, which is fine, but it's pretty darn frosty.  I would like to alert all women out there that frosty lip colors are not for anyone over 19.  You heard it here first.
